Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo C1 was designed by a German company and took Europe by storm before it became an international brand. It can be used daily and was designed to strengthen weakened hair roots, increase the productivity of hair roots, enhance the speed of hair growth and counteract hair loss.

The company claims that the formula of Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo C1 increases hair growth by providing activating ingredients to the hair roots and stimulating hair growth directly at the roots. Now let’s take a closer look at the actual results.

How Effective Is Alpecin For Hair Growth?

According to the Advertising Standards Authority, the makers of Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo were banned from saying that using Alpecin can actually reduce hair loss as there was no adequate evidence to support the company’s claim.

However, the results of studies about caffeine shampoos conducted by pharmaceutical companies showed no promising results for actual hair growth.

I personally have tried Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo and have to admit that I haven’t noticed an increased hair growth at all. Using Alpecin has even made my hair a bit dry. BUT: One thing I’ve noticed after the use of Alpecin was that single hair strands felt thicker than before.

So basically, in my opinion, Alpecin doesn’t reduce hair loss but promotes thicker hair. At least it artificially makes your hair look thicker. Note: This is just my personal experience and doesn’t imply that you will experience the same results!

Important Things You Should Know About Caffeine Shampoos

As caffeine shampoos contain fragrances and contract blood vessels, they may increase hair loss in the long term and even lead to a scalp calcification. A scalp calcification is the hardening of the scalp due to a long term inflammation.

If you have experienced these symptoms, it’s probably the best not to use caffeine shampoos any longer as they will only worsen the symptoms.

Developed For Men But Also Suitable For Women?

alpecin for hair growth

If you have ever tried Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo before, you might have noticed its masculine fragrance. That’s because Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo was actually specifically developed for men with male pattern baldness. So how come it’s also suitable for women?

As many women with female pattern baldness are looking for a shampoo that promotes hair growth, they may also want to use Alpecin because of its caffeine-based active ingredient complex. Long story short, the effectiveness of Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo is not gender-determined at all and can be helpful for both men and women.

How To Properly Use Alpecin

Washing your hair with Alpecin daily provides your hair roots with its activating ingredient. Massage the shampoo into your hair. After that, you only have to let it sit for 2 minutes in order to make sure the ingredients get absorbed into your scalp. If you want more caffeine to be absorbed into your scalp, you can also leave it in longer.

Rinse it thoroughly and repeat the same procedure on the next day if necessary.

Can Alpecin Be Used With Other Hair Growth Products?

Alpecin has the advantage of being free of dimethicone – a silicone-based compound that has a lubricating effect and is often added to shampoos and conditioners because the lubricant helps detangle your hair.

The problem with dimethicone is that if you use topical treatments such as minoxidil or trichogen, it can coat the scalp and prevent topical treatments from being absorbed into your scalp.

As Alpecin doesn’t contain dimethicone, it makes it an ideal candidate for being combined with topical solutions. So if you are looking for a shampoo you can use in combination with topical solutions without coating your scalp, you might want to give Alpecin a try.

The Bottom Line

In summary, Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo is designed to prevent hair loss due to genetics. Although I personally tested Alpecin Caffeeine Shampoo and didn’t recognize a significant difference in my hair density, there are many people who are satisfied with the results and even claim to have improved their hair health and density.

Alpecin is affordable and can be purchased from Amazon or eBay. If you are suffering from hair loss and are currently trying to find the right hair loss treatment, the best thing you can do is to try out different products and also combine them to see which one works best for you. Just try to have an open mind to all options because you never know until you try, right?

  1. hey there,

i´ve read that Minoxidil works by widening blood vessels. Caffeine on the other hand constricts those very same vessels.

Do you think minoxidil and alpecin could even be antagonizing each other, when used simultaneously? And might that combination cause even more hair loss?

    1. Hey, Marc! As far as I know, there is no scientific evidence saying that alpecin and minoxidil are antagonizing each other. I used both simultaneously for a few months and nothing bad happened. But for me personally, minoxidil was more helpful and made my hair grow back within a few months. I hope this answer was helpful for you 🙂 All the best, Ruya
