Male-pattern baldness

Let me break it down for you: There are internal as well as external factors that can cause hair loss.

If you have been suffering from hair loss for a long period of time although you went to several doctors, had your health check- ups which were all fine and tried out countless anti-hair loss products without any satisfying results, chances are high that you might be suffering from androgenetic alopecia.

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common reason that causes hair loss in both men and women. In case your doctor gave you this diagnosis, I can assure you that you WILL be able to regrow your hair with a little basic knowledge about the process of hair loss you are going to acquire in the course of this article.

Hair, Hair Everywhere – The Main Causes Of Hair Loss

female-pattern hair loss

The following 4 factors can lead to hair loss:

  1. Stress
  2. Hormones
  3. Genes
  4. Aging

While male-pattern hair loss (MPHL) is the most common cause of hair loss in men, women are experiencing female-pattern hair loss (FPHL).

The male-pattern hair loss is typical for a receding hair line and results in baldness. This type of hair loss is hereditary and oftentimes starts at an early age.

The female-pattern hair loss can be categorized in 3 types of hair loss:

  • Telogen effluvium
  • Non-pattern hair loss
  • Androgenetic alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is an inherited condition and triggered by a high sensitivity to male hormones (androgens) that affects the top of the scalp in men as well as in women. However, women’s hair tend to thinning rather than falling out.

Men’s hair loss primarily results in a receding hairline and can often lead to severe baldness. The characteristics of male-pattern hair loss is a pattern that begins in both temples and develops an “M” shape.Over time, the thinning hair at the crown can progress to baldness.

Male-pattern baldness

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a form of the male hormone testosterone that is highly active and harms the hair follicles in both men and women while testosterone is converting to DHT.

The DHT activity weakens the hair follicles and shortens the active growth phase (anagen phase). While the anagen growth cycle is getting shorter, hair is starting to shed and, as a result, become thinner.

In case these 4 signs are familiar to you…

…then it is time to take some action! If any of the following symptoms apply to you, you definitely need to consider a treatment:

  1. More hair on your pillow
  2. More strands on your brush or comb
  3. More hair in the drain
  4. Sunburn or thinning spots on your scalp

Hard Facts About Thinning Hair – Did you know, that…

  • …the average scalp is covered with 100.000 hair follicles.
  • facts about thinning hair
…no new hair follicles are formed after birth and the follicles can stop producing new hair as you age.
  • …female pattern hair loss can start at any time in a woman’s life and thinning hair can peak around the time of menopause.
  • …the average person loses between 50-100 hairs a day, whereas a consistent loss of > 150 hairs a day is considered a significant hair loss.
  • …if left untreated, hereditary hair loss will continue. An early treatment is key to prevent hair loss.

The Power Of Rogaine – Why Minoxidil Makes Your Hair Grow Back

healthy hair

Minoxidil was actually first used for high blood pressure treatment until it became the best treatment method for hair loss.

It dilates the arteries causing a decrease of the blood flow resistance and works by widening the hair follicle, causing a thickening of the hair strand and by prolonging the anagen phase, which, in fact, leads to a higher number of hair strands.

Rogaine is a hair regrowth treatment that contains minoxidil in 2 different doses: 2% and 5%. But why exactly is it the best hair-regrowth treatment on the market? Here are a few things you will benefit from when purchasing Rogaine.

  1. Thank you for the information on these pages, I did not know that there was any practical solution to hair loss.. Well, maybe that is not right – I have tried a couple of different medications when I was losing my hair but did not really look at the possibility that there might be a way to grow them back…lol.. or that there are different types of baldness. I think I must have tried Rogaine years ago. I have not really thought about it until now after reading your posts!!.. I have been bald now for awhile and at first I didn’t feel self conscious but I have gotten over that. Now you have piqued my interest and I will definitely do some research on what kind of treatments there are for male pattern baldness. Thank you again for the information.

    1. You’re welcome, Gus! There are plenty of ways to grow back hair after hair loss, which is really awesome. For me, Rogaine worked wonders and luckily I was able to reactivate the hair follicles. It might take a bit longer to awaken dormant hair, which means that you won’t be able to revive dead hair follicles, but regrowing “sleeping” hair follicles is definitely possible. I will share this with my husband! Thank you for posting this article.

    1. Hi Maria. I totally understand your husband’s worries, but luckily there are so many options for treating hair loss nowadays. For me, it was Rogaine that helped me grow my hair back. Knowing what causes hair loss in the first place is the first step to recovery. Check out my previous posts below, I think they might help. All the best, Ruya
